Trades on the move: electrotechnology to management
In the first year of his apprenticeship, Daniel Crisp worked at ANSTO’s new nuclear reactor at Lucas Heights, where his employer ‘did all the electrical work: light & power, booster pumps, back-up diesel generators and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) units.’

Traineeships

 Katrina Hamilton Trainee

Training success – Roy Young pharmacy
The chance sighting of ‘a little advert about a traineeship’ when she first left school has led Katrina (Kate) Hamilton to her current position: Assistant Buyer with Roy Young pharmacy in Chatswood.

 School-based apprenticeships
 Brenton Pearce School-based Apprentice

Brenton the Builder
It’s a school day, but high school student Brenton Pearce is working on a building site at Saratoga on the NSW central coast. Brenton is a ‘school-based apprentice’ and spends one day on-site, one day at TAFE — and the remaining school days at school, working towards his HSC.

Bricks and books?
An impressive new brick barbeque (dubbed the ‘Taj Mahal’ by students) and a much-needed brick retaining wall have been built at two campuses of the Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College on the Central Coast, thanks to a hard-working group of young student bricklayers.
